I wish today that your heart were mine. That we had swapped these precious things for a time. That I could take away the pain, You fought so hard every day to tame. My heart would help you heal in time, And yours would help me calm my mind. And when we swapped them back someday, We’d both be healed and you’d be ok. But we know that’s not how the story goes, Because you’re here and I’ll grow old. My heart is heavy as well as my mind, And today you’re here frozen in time. If I could go back and see you again I wouldn't change a thing that I did or said. I’d just want to hold you a few more times And tell you I loved you so you knew you were mine. I’m not sure, Pen, how life goes on after this. A life without cuddles, or side-eye or a kiss - And I know that they say it gets easier with time, But I hope that you never fade from my mind. I wish today that your heart were mine. That I was the one who was frozen in time. If it meant you’d grow old, and healthy and free, I would be more than happy as a memory.
